Ice Dam Water Damage Worcester

Ice Dam Water Damage

Ice dams are a very pervasive and damaging roofing problem. They form when melting snow on a roof runs off and refreezes at the edge off the roof. Generally they occur due to poor roof ventilation and a warm attic space. With the harsh winters of Massachusetts, excessive snowfalls can cause this to occur on any home or building.

When the snow is melted by a warm roof, water runs between the snow and the warm roof surface. Refreezing occurs as the water flow gets past the exterior wall and hits a cold unheated roof edge or gutter. As the bottom of the snow pack continues to melt, water continues to flow down the roof surface until it hits the ice, thereby creating a larger ice dam.

What structures of your home can be affected by Ice Dams?

Left untreated, ice dams can cause serious damage to your roof, gutters, paint, insulation, drywall, structure and even contribute to mold.

This water will sometimes run between the outer and inner walls of your home, creating water damage to the interior walls and ceilings of your home.
